I am Professor of Genetics and Deputy Head of the Department of Genetics, Ecology and Evolution, Vasco Azevedo, at Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil. I am a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and am a Knight of the National Order of Scientific Merit of the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, also, I am researcher 1A of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) which is the highest position.
It is a humbling thing to be asked to take up the post of Editor-in-Chief in a field with so many talented researchers. I would like to say a heartfelt thanks to the members of the Editorial Board of IIOAB Journal for their confidence in me. Most importantly, I would like to thank members of the editorial board and especially Dr. Debmalya Barh, PhD for their efforts in launching the journal 13 years ago. They have been stewards, promoters and, especially Debmalya, key to the operation for all these years, and our research community is indebted to them. We have dedicated our careers to the emerging field of integrative omics sciences, and we are very grateful for their leadership, mentoring and contribution.
IIOAB is a thriving journal offering papers on multiple scientific and technical areas. The journal is undergoing some major changes, including the recent transferal of papers to updated peer-review management system. With this new system authors can expect fast publication times of around 4 or 5 months from submission, and excellent author service.
In this world of ever-changing technology, the Editorial Board and I aim to reduce the time to publication for researchers in this exciting area of science and engineering. I am in the process of developing a team of Associate Editors to promote the journal in the number of critical sub-areas, and to play a key, integral role in the review process. Associate Editors will be chosen to serve in several sub-areas to ensure expertise and continuation of the rigorous review process. Under my leadership as the Editor-in-Chief, I aim to ensure that Integrative Omics and Applied Biotechnology (IIOAB) Journal maintains and grows in quality to best serve our diverse community of researchers.
With warm regards,
Vasco Azevedo
Editor-in-Chief
